 Justin Bieber is the son of Jeremy Bieber and,Pattie Mallette, who fell pregnant when she was 18-years-old. As a child, Bieber showed a strong interest in music, teaching himself to play many instruments. When he was 12, he entered a local talent competition, and placed second. His mother posted his performance on YouTube, and continued to post other clips of Bieber singing.

Later Bieber was discovered in 2008 by American talent manager Scooter Braun, who came across Bieber's videos on YouTube and later became his manager.Braun arranged for him to meet with entertainer Usher Raymond in Atlanta, Georgia, and Bieber was signed to Raymond Braun Media Group , and then to an Island Records recording contract offered by record executive L.A. Reid.
